Dean's first day of big boy school was fantastic. I came downstairs with his clothes around 8:00, so he got dressed, then headed for the door. He didn't have to be there until 9, but he couldn't wait. We took a few pictures and off we went.
Several people asked about the sign he's holding. It's a traidition I learned about on Pinterest and one I hope to do every first day of school. This year our printer decided to act up, so we made a sign with crayons and stickers depicting Dean's favorite foods.
When we arrived, Dean introduced himself to his teacher (again), then spotted the giant mountain of Play-Doh on the table and made a run for it. I talked to his teacher for a minute, then said hi to my friend Tammy and her daughter. When I turned to tell him goodbye, Dean was playing with a little girl at the train table. I said, "Bye, Dean, have a good day!" He didn't even wave. It's ok, though. I'd rather be ignored than have to shake him off my leg.
I picked him up just after 3:00. He was on the playground looking at leaves near what he calls the Troll Bridge. His teacher walked inside with us to get his things from his cubby and told me he'd had a great first day. He made 2 art projects:
Marcus and I think the first one sort of looks like a nosebleed. The second one with the title "Dean would like to play..." features (wait for it) DINOSAURS!
They sent home a little slip telling what they did and I have to tell you, reading it made ME tired. Blocks, cars, dramatic play, science with seashells, sand table, toy scavengar hunt, marching games, art, outside play...what DIDN'T they do? Dean enjoyed his lunch (except the chicken) and amused his teachers by eating 4 helpings of broccoli. He made 2 new friends and played with a couple of folks he already knew. When we left, he insisted on bringing his nap mat home, along with his backpack. At the end of the day, I took him out for ice cream and he told me all about his adventures.
When we got home, he looked at me and said, "Mama, I so TIRED!" Then he sort of collapsed onto the floor and watched Kipper for a while. He made it to 8:05 before passing out and slept nearly 12 hours.
This morning, the first thing out of his mouth was, "Time to go on an adventure! I go back to big boy school!" I'm so glad he sees school as an adventure. I hope he always does.
It makes me so happy that Dean was so excited to go to school yesterday and was still excited to go today. He's so precious and is going to learn so much at his new school. That was a busy day!

Ooo- good idea with the sign...I may steal that if I get motivated enough.
So glad Dean had such a great first day!
