Friday marked Dean's first trip to the zoo. He wasn't as excited as I thought he might be, but he did have a fun time. It was blazing hot and we actually kept him in the stroller a lot of the time, lest he wander off into the wild and get pecked by a bird of prey. (That TOTALLY happened to me when I was 2.) Here are many pictures of our adventure.
Marcus was so excited to see this dispenser of fish kibble that he abandoned Dean and me to get himself a handfull.
He fed the koi, turtles and other fishy friends in the various ponds around the zoo. I threatened to leave him if he didn't get every single morsel of kibble out of his pocket before he put his pants in the hamper. (We had an incident with some artificial bait in a pocket not long ago. Nothing gets your morning off on the wrong foot like a slimy fake lizard.)
Dean learned lots at the zoo, such as...
Where babies come from:
How monkeys groom each other:
How to brush a goat:
How people used the potty in the olden days:
What it feels like to be a lion:
And what a real butterfly kiss feels like:
It was a great day for the giraffe,
the peacock,
and the rhino.
But not the hippopotamus.
Oh, what fun! Wish I'd been there to feed the fish and everything else with Marcus. You know how I am at the zoo. ;) I love "but not the hippopotamus"!

Great animal pictures! I hope they continue to love the zoo as they get older and more "interested" in the different animals.
