I haven't done an audience participation post in a while, and it might be a good way to get to know more about the new readers who have stumbled over from UBP. (Come on, don't lurk! Leave a comment!) I've been in a semi-funk today, so once Dean went to bed, I turned to the one thing that always lifts my spirits: music. I have different songs for different occasions, as I'm sure we all do. There are certain songs I like to listen to only when I'm driving (the entire Bon Jovi Crossroads album), some specifically reserved for roadtrips ("Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root), some I will only listen to when no one else is around so I can sing them loudly and badly ("We Belong" by Pat Benetar), and some that I like to listen to with my husband ("Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash). Today, however, I was reminded of a song that is certainly one of my favorites, but that I often forget about. It appeared in Shrek (the first one), my favorite episode of West Wing (the one where Simon gets shot...CRYYYYY) and a ton of other tv shows and movies. It gives me chills every time I hear it. And the Youtube clip I'm posting below features Drew Sarich, one of my favorite Broadway actors, singing it like I've never heard it sung before. His voice is absolutely perfect. Marcus and I saw him in Les Miz and I could have easily jumped on stage and hugged him he was so good. But I digress.
My song? Hallelujah
What's your go-to song?
Edited to add: I forgot to warn you that he sings "Somewhere" from West Side Story first. It, too, is pretty incredible.
I don't think I have a go-to-song. But, I have a few play lists on my computer I love to listen to. One is worship music, one is Andy Griffith singing hymns, and lately I have been listening to a kids worship cd we got free. It depends on the mood which one I turn to.

Hallelujah is one of my favourites too - my recent TV memories of it are from House and Scrubs. It often makes me tear up, as it should.
Other go to songs are Dave Matthews "Say Goodbye" and Tracy Chapman "Fast Car" or "Give me one reason" and recently MGMT's "Time to Pretend" and the song by MIA called "Paper Planes" (?) from Slumdog Millionaire.
And I KNOW...I'm totally not a lurker but could not resist participating. I'm just a joiner.

What are my go-to songs? Hmm. I tend to go a little more hard rock than you apparently :-) A personal favorite of mine is Vicarious by Tool. Not because of the words being said, but because of the music I hear. Just picks me up out of the slumbers. The other one I tend to turn to is Sixx AM - Life is Beautiful.

Ooh, Professor Mikey is right about that Sixx AM song. It's pretty good.
Hmmmm... this is tough for me. I guess I tend to go for The Beatles - Let it Be. Always calms me down and reminds me things will be okay. But if I need something to pep me up, I'd grab pretty much anything by O.A.R., especially Crazy Game of Poker. :)

@Heather I'm glad we agree :-)
