Dean studied pets at school this week. On Tuesday, he was wearing these when we picked him up:
He'd made them that morning, worn them outside, slept in them at nap time and kept them on until he went to bed that night. He kept coming up to Marcus and me going, "Woof woof!" Except he says it "Woop woop!"
On Friday, he made a pet rock. It was covered with stickers and had his name written on it. I asked what the rock's name was and he looked at me, sighed heavily and said, "DEAN." Duh.
We got our first Scholastic book order of the year on Thursday and I honestly don't know who was more excited, Dean or me. We sprung for a 12-pack for $20 (the Back To School special). They are all paperbacks, some familiar (CORDUROY), some not (MRS. MCNOSH AND THE GIANT SQUASH). We're slowly savoring each one, reading them multiple times per night. Dean is particulary fond of one called COOKIE'S WEEK, which features a cat falling into the toilet.
While he still does the typical three-year-old thing, which is to clam up when I ask him what he did at school, but he eventually spills the beans. I love it when he just bursts into a song we've never heard that he has obviously learned at school. Our favorite is "Be Happy." The lyrics are pretty deep:
Be Happy, Be Happy, Be Happy Happy Happy
Marcus ran into Dean's teacher at the coffee shop one day this week and she gave us the greatest feedback about our boy. (Pardon me while I brag a bit.) She said she likes Dean because he just enjoys being a little kid. And he does. He's happy, happy, happy.
